Engagement Pictures...Why you definitely should!

Congratulations! You said Yes!! This is an exciting and special time in your relationship. This is a time to celebrate and relish every moment!

You’re engaged and now the wedding planning begins! You're most likely wondering… what do we do next? Just thinking about all the many things to do can be overwhelming. I know, I was just there in 2016! The first thing you need to do is nail down your date and your venue. Those go hand in hand because if your dream venue is not available on the date you set, you will have to either change your date or your venue.

Once you have your date and venue set then you'll want to make sure your favorite photographer is available to capture all the LOVE!

Once you find your dream photographer, schedule your engagement session right away! Some of you may be asking, "Is that really important?"

For my couples, I recommend an engagement photo session for many reasons, and here are my top reasons:

1. It gives you a "test run" before the Big Day to get comfortable in front of the camera.

Maybe you are a little camera shy or even a little self-conscious, I mean we weren't all born natural fashion models 💁🏻‍♀️. From learning how to pose to learning how to be candid and show your spontaneity, you will see that its not only fun but also time well spent! Having a practice session will help you learn to relax, feel at ease and look less tense and awkward on your wedding day. That's really the important part!

2. It builds a stronger relationship with your photographer

Believe it or not, establishing a relationship with your photographer before your wedding will make a difference in the outcome of your wedding photos. They learn how you interact with each other, your individual personalities and even the quirky things you do. Being comfortable with the person behind the camera is key. It gives you time to talk to your photographer about any concerns, tell them what you like and don't like in photos, etc. Also, I recommend taking engagement pics sooner rather than later so you're not stressing to get them done when you're in full-on wedding planning mode.

3. You'll have and get to see gorgeous photos of yourselves and of your love story that you can use Pre-Wedding.

This is really a "two-in-one" benefit! The advantage of seeing professional pics before saying "I do" is you can let your photographer know ahead of time if there are shots or angles you don't care for, and you can point out shots you do like too. This also allows you and your fiancé to get creative and express yourselves. Since these photos will be in non-wedding clothes, you can really do anything. Do you love hiking together? Ask your photographer to hike with you to your favorite spot and capture your love there! Do you love coffee shops, or did you meet in one? Ask your photographer to capture your engagement photos at your favorite coffee shop to help tell your full love story! Tip: Have your hair and makeup trial done on the same day as your engagement session. This way, you get to see how it looks in photos and can let your stylists know if there's anything you'd like to change. Then, you can use these photos for wedding details. Maybe you want to display them at the reception, create a guest book for your guests to sign, order save the date cards or thank you cards, or even use them on your wedding website. There are so many ways they can be used, not to mention, your favorite engagement photo on a canvas will look amazing on the wall in your living room! Bottom line, once you see your engagement images and get excited about them, you'll have more confidence in yourselves and in your photographer. On the most important day, you'll look forward to having your pictures taken, instead of dreading the thought of having a camera pointed at you all day.

4. It'll give you a chance to "reconnect" and celebrate being engaged!

No matter how long you've been engaged, it will feel short! Take the time to celebrate this amazing time! You will find that you wish you had more quality time together as an engaged couple, and having engagement photos taken is the perfect time for a little unexpected bonding. Have your engagement photos taken at a location that has some significance to the two of you. It could be where you got engaged or had your first date, or it could just be somewhere you like to spend time together. If you are lost on location ideas, ask your photographer for some help. They tend to know many locations that may work with your vision. Picking a meaningful spot will make your images will feel more special—and you'll also likely feel more at ease in an environment you're familiar with.

So, in a nutshell, these are my top arguments that you should book an engagement session! If you are still not convinced, I will gladly answer any question you may have just reach out to me. If you have already booked a wedding package with me and would like to add an engagement session, contact me! I will be happy to get one added.
